On the fuzzy side of life

I remember the first time I saw the idea of this and thought “well aint that swell.”  Then listening to a podcast today I was reminded of it and know what I think he was right.  Fuzzy Clock is quite swell.  Why do you need to know the exact minute of the hour?  I used it for a little bit in straight Debian once, well not this app but the same idea, and it did start to sink in to my brain.  But know what, I just need to know like right now, ten to ten.  beyond that what does it matter?  I dont think I could really use it at work cause they are too strict there on meetings, but as long as i know well its about 15 till 11, i dont care.

Head long

Well I’ve jumped head long into the world of gaming again.  I’ve not played any video games in heavy amount since early years of college.  Back then it was Duke Nukem 3D, Hexen, Quake2, and my favorite StarCraft.  Soon there after I built my own computer power house and it was the days of Counter Strike, Diablo2, and Age of Empires.  It was back when networking was a black art that most people didn’t do.  I remember when we stepped up and got NIC’s in our pc’s.  Then we setup a small LAN there in the dorms between like 30 computers with our cables running though closets and hallways.  Oh the memories.

Well a couple weeks ago I finally bought an Xbox360.  I’m always a few years behind the curve.  I bought a PS2 like years and years after it came out, same now with this 360.  Now I find myself once again enjoying games and playing probably way too much.  Xbox Live and its online system makes it too easy and nice to play online, which is basicly the only way I’ve been playing.  Its even a way some of my friends and myself are able to do stuff on a semi regular basis.  So…I do feel a bit guilty now cause it seems its all I do now that I get home.  I have hours and hours of recorded shows on the DVR I need to watch, but just dont want to.  If its not one of the 4 or 5 shows I really enjoy they just sit there taking up space to be watched in my spare time.

Be it good or bad…Im back into gaming.

Please step away from the computer

Me and my computers don’t appear to be on very good terms.  First I get home from Mid-Ohio to find my file server turned off.  It’s power supply, dead.  So I grab my last power supply I have not in use here, and throw it in the box.  I boot and I am missing some drives, I figure “crap Ive lost my data.”  Well it was that the cable came loose when I was changing power supplies.  Get that fixed.  Then because of this heat, it keeps shutting down.  If it lasts all day its amazing.  I may try a bigger heat sink on the processor but they are 3 times as loud as it is now and that sucks.  I also may move the network around this weekend and put it here in the living room where I am never at.  Last night I also noticed my F drive was gone.  It doesnt show up in the bios any more :( .  So I lost a little data, nothing important tho.  Ill work on that later tonight.  If I figure right, thats my oldest drive at somewhere near 10 years old.  I guess thats not horrible….  Ok now on to work, we are starting our every other weekend off again this week.  So its my week to work, sadly.

I love Logitech

Just a quick call and Im being upgraded.  This happened last year sometime.  My old mouse was having issues like charging.  I love wireless mice, and a cradle that charges it makes the most sense.  And I called them telling them the problem.  They say well we will just send you a new one, oh that mx700 we dont make anymore so we are sending you a mx1000.  Sweet upgrade.

I just called in just now saying that the mouse pointer is jumping around.  It goes all the way left or top while you are moving the mouse around or doing things.  It gets annoying while trying to drag and drop.  Or the click is questionable at times.  So they go though some troubleshooting things.   It still jumps around, which is odd for the mouse to act up on command.  But in the end they just say, we will send you a new one and oh we dont make the mx1000 anymore so we will be sending you a MX Revolution.  Sweet upgrade.

So buy Logitech…its worth it in the long run, beyond the fact they make the best mice still yet.

Dual monitors

You know I just dont know how anyone can work without this setup.  I know some people like one huge monitor, but I do like something about the physical separation.  I would like to try a 24″+ size monitor and see how Id like one huge monitor.  But I got a setup going now here at home for the last few months and it is nice having matching sized monitors.  At work I finally have a setup going I think I like.  I have a work place and a play place.  I like that separation.  That over here I keep all the important things over there -> I put all the entertainment.  Oh well…some just wouldnt understand

Max It Out

Not often do you find out there are some major names living around you. Well major names to the tech community, in which I belong. While Im a small pea in this pod, I like to think all us geek’s tend to stick together. Thats why when reading Nick Bradbury and Rex Hammock respective blogs I felt compelled to post this…

Max It Out is a charity based here in Nashville. It supports the research of meningitis and a cure towards the problem. Max Royka contracted bacterial meningitis when he was just 6 weeks old and that led his parents into forming a charity to support the research of this disease. They put on an event every year, but this year they are unable to spread the word because of rushing Max to the hospital last week. So the blogging community here in TN has been tapped with trying to spread the word. So if you are looking for a good cause to support….please donate. If you are looking for a good time, join them downtown on February 3rd and listen to some good music and talk to some good people.

So please spread the word if you can to anyone and everyone you know.

Weekend

Guess I did find something to do.  Calum wants me up in Oak Ridge to help work on the old b12.  Got to put a new wiring harness in it to make sure its running well.  Think about it, car that weighs maybe 2100lbs, with a 180hp engine…that thing is going to be fast.  Engine is in, has ran, but hack job means its sketchy at times.  We are putting a stock wiring harness in with a tuned ECU from Calum.  That and a little bit of work for say the radiator is all that car needs.  Actually it all fits, but for the turbo we gota move the radiator a bit.  So hacksaws here we come.  Atleast this weekend will be better than sitting at home doing nothing.

Going headlong

Im going to try to get used to using del.icio.us for my bookmarking. I know im a bit late to the game, but it does seem that a lot of people use it and can make finding info a lot easier. So Im going to try it. Its a steep learning curve tho, trying to figure out how to tag crap. But if you want to see what i think is interesting, go to my link blog to read things. Or over on the right hand side at the bottom is my del.icio.us tag roll… we will see how this goes.
