Redoing it ALL

Clearing it out to the bare walls…Yes sir, come down here make an offer it all has to go…

Sorta, going though my ‘persona’ and figuring out what needs to be remade.  That means for one thing, new resume.  Then maybe a new blog with a little more professional sound to it than this place.  And lastly…new clothes.

Resume is getting a massive makeover.  Going back down to a one page layout.  Looking around at various friends resume’s and found one I really like and sadly, taking a lot of cues from it.  My layout has been the same for nearly 8 years I think its time for a change.  I hate the ‘ms office’ layouts that I see out there, so I never used one.  This new layout is very fresh for sure, and a little…omg buzz word…web2.0.  I like it a lot.  And I thnk really will shine compared to a lot of other SysAdmins out there.

New blog?  I hear you say “but you dont keep this one up.”  And you’d be right.  But now I have time, and the ability to think of what to say, I think I should but more of a professional foot out there.  not that this place is very…unflattering.  I just think the aim is different.  This is for family and friends, going to say my other domain…mindless-innovation, could be more professional.  So really thinking about that.

New clothes.  Gota look the part.  Or not look the part.  The daily dress has been a polo and jeans for a long time.  I have put on too much weight to fit in my old interview clothes.  So time to go buy some.  Cause I dont think jeans and a polo would pass.  Maybe a black turtle neck…but only if I were interviewing at Apple.  Sadly khakis, long sleve shirt, and a tie is probably needed.  I hate that cause as as SysAdmin, I know our expected dress is at most, khakis and a polo.  But as they say, dress at least one level above what you are interviewing for.

So…time for a change

Laid off 2009

Well I’m now unemployeed yet again.  This is the first time in 3 years but this time had no warning and no pre-prep for it.

Story

Came in Monday morning saw the HR lady, knew something was up.  Buzz around the office was loud, couple of the tier 2 ladies said their boss was there and they were already packing up their things.  So I went about my regular duties.  Around 10:30 I went out for a restroom break and out comes my boss from the conference room to the restroom himeslf.  So at that point, yup something is up…  Tell Brett and we start wondering.  Few mins later I get called aside…Yup its me.

So the 4 of us, one is in NYC where contract demands someone stay so he’s safe.  One out in Cali, hes the only Sharepoint portal admin, and it was deemed an internal website is mission critical , so hes safe.  That comes down to the two of us in Nashville.  I guess between the two, Id even keep Brett, he is definatly more of an admin than I am so a little more important.  The difference is, he is defiantly a development admin, and Im more of a general admin and manager.  He trumpts me in scripting for sure, but thats why we complemented each other very well.  He was the developer, I was the talker and quick response.

Yea, now in the market again.  Its a rough market for sure.  Job now is, make sure I post my resume somewhere 3-5 times a day if possible, shooting for like 10-15 resume’s given out a week however that is spreadout it doesn’t matter.  Putting my name out everywhere possible is the point.  Have to go buy some interview clothes again, nothing fits, sometime soon.  Have to do lot of little things….and try to figure out how to live as cheap as possible.

Need a Linux SysAdmin with around 9 years experience in it?  Or just an all around tech guy?  Need computer work done?
