Grocery lists

Ok I think its time to start thinking of making a list again.  It never fails… go to the store get everything and head home.  First of all the new Krogers is great, but their baggers leave a little to be desired.  I, myself, was a bagger at one point in my life.  Heck what teenage boy wasn’t…well he was a bugger flipper usually if not.  But these guys are idiots it seems.  Sure they do proper segregation of items like not sticking your deodorant in with your ground beef, but they take it to the extreme.  It seems no matter how many items I buy, or what combo, I leave with 25 bags.  Everything seems to be in its own bag.  That irks me a bit.  Sure if I had a small trash can to use them as liners it would be nice, but I don’t.

I digress.  Ever notice you forget the most important thing?  I am making taco’s this week, and I make my own seasoning and not use one of those nasty packets.  They are full of nothing but corn starch and salt.  But I ran out of most every spice I use.  No onion powder, no garlic powder, no chili powder.  That last one being the most important.  Its what makes the pot red after all.  I have some garlic and I use it from time to time so I can get by that hurdle.   Onion powder, doesn’t really add much in terms of flavor.  But chili powder is the main ingredient.  The big issue here is, you never remember to get stuff like that.  And when you do, its usually when you are in the kitchen in your socks and lounging clothes getting ready to cook.  Not the most opportune time to go back to the store.  Oh well….time to get more organized in my life maybe.

Max It Out

Not often do you find out there are some major names living around you. Well major names to the tech community, in which I belong. While Im a small pea in this pod, I like to think all us geek’s tend to stick together. Thats why when reading Nick Bradbury and Rex Hammock respective blogs I felt compelled to post this…

Max It Out is a charity based here in Nashville. It supports the research of meningitis and a cure towards the problem. Max Royka contracted bacterial meningitis when he was just 6 weeks old and that led his parents into forming a charity to support the research of this disease. They put on an event every year, but this year they are unable to spread the word because of rushing Max to the hospital last week. So the blogging community here in TN has been tapped with trying to spread the word. So if you are looking for a good cause to support….please donate. If you are looking for a good time, join them downtown on February 3rd and listen to some good music and talk to some good people.

So please spread the word if you can to anyone and everyone you know.

Racing starts

Well this kinda starts the racing season.  The LeMans Daytona 24 hours race kinda starts the whole process for the year, since it is one of the first big races.  I would LOVE to be there.  I will be there at some point, tho Id rather go to LeMans France :) for the real thing.  One day….One day.  Im going to try to catch most of the races this year of F1, I need to get a Comcast DVR sometime for it.  But kinda waiting for the rumor that they will soon be using TiVo software, the moment I hear it for sure, is the moment I drive up to north Nashville….ok green flag is about to fall…

Trainer

bike trainer

Well I made an impulse buy today.  I want to get back on the bike, but its cold.  I do the best when riding my own bike, I just like the feel of it.  I love my shoes my friends got me, lets you really transfer the power to the crank.  I love the seat and post that really is shock resistant.  I love the carbon forks, and the padded bar.  So I got a trainer.  And oh boy let me tell ya, that thing does make you really work.  You never stop pedaling and has very linear resistance.  The bikes at the gym are just meh.  They have next to no resistance, they are so vague feeling, and get boring real quick.  So sat my butt up in front of the tv, put on some Time Team and started pedaling.  I only got 6 miles and 25mins but Im totaly wore out.  It defiantly was pricey, but its high quality, strong, and if I put it to use…one of the best items Ive bought yet.  I defiantly felt more work out on it than anything Ive done at the gym.  So…oh well no new gadgets for me for a while, it all went toward this trainer.

Bitchy

Yup that was me today.  I know why too, but that is a different story.  What kills me tho is how everyone just wanted to get on my nerves today.  By lunch, you could forget me getting anything done or being productive at all.  I got some stuff done in the morning but lunch…i could barely eat cause the email going off in my pocket.  Having a Treo sucks about 95% of the time.  Oh well thats how the ball rolls I guess.

Im really considering buying a trainer like here soon.  As in if I dont find something on sleazebay in a day or two, Ill hit the local stores and pay way too much.  I just think riding my bike in front of the tv would get me motivated more.  I can put on an hour long show and just ride.  Sure I have hour long podcasts but I get bored at the gym, tho the eye candy is nice.  But Ill save the lifting for the gym and the cardio here at home.  Ive got the perfect spot for it…now to buy it…

YAY

OMG finally a MythTV player that works on windows. MythTVPlayer The only bad thing, is moving it to the second desktop still doesnt play. but Im used to that. as sucky as it may be….its better than nothing

Human Jungle Gym

I have still yet to figure out why I am the human jungle gym to Rod’s youngest.  Her and her friend were climbing all over me today.  They are both like 6 I think.  But Im like the play toy of fav when I come over.  In the pool Im the one that has to throw them, drag them, and play surf board.  In side its sit on my shoulders, crawl all over me, push me down, throw them, and me carry them over my shoulder.  Its a work out in itself just going up there.  I have no idea why Im so fun to climb on…but alas I am…

Busy June

Well Im laying plans now.  Looking like I may just end up at the Chicago SE-R National convention again this year.  Which is not bad, lots of older guys there I’d like to see.  And Ive never been to Chicago.  Ive got some friends and co-workers up there that I can go hang with and see something interesting.  So thats the first weekend of the month.  Big question is do I take the NX and put it on the track, if I still have it then…

Third week in June is the USGP.  I do want to make it back to Indy for the Gran Prix and this seems like a good time to take off for it.  I have to start planning for that now.  Hotels get full and get expensive as race weekend approaches.  Maybe go further out for the hotel but dont know yet.  I still like the idea of going to like a KOA and camping.  Dirt cheap and its not like we are doing anything but sleeping… but Im not the final decider on that.

Then sometime Calum is getting married and unfortunately Im in the wedding.   So I gota find out when that is and hope it doesn’t conflict with the other plans.  I feel its on that weekend which would royally suck.  Not like I can get it moved tho ;) .  But I guess I should be happy for the boy…Im an ass aren’t I.

Convert

Im going to be a total convert.  Anyone want to donate to the cause?  Im going all Apple as soon as I can.  I am selling my laptop to probably Calum and that will get me about 1/3rd the way to a new Black MacBook for myself.  I cant justify anything more than that at this moment tho.  Then I need to get a tower or MacMini for my desktop.  Ive now been using the MacBook Pro for around a month and I LOVE it.  I cant immagine going back.  I was using Linux at work 24/7 and windows here at home.  I cant say I like using windows but it works.  I like Linux a lot but it does need a lot of work to be a real desktop.  My servers are Debian based and will stay that way.  But I think its time for a change.  I refuse to go to Vista so OSX here I come….  now people….help me ;)

Yup its that day

Humpday

Oh well.  Its one of those days where you just dont feel like you got crap done.  And now Im sitting here doing nothing still yet.  Story of my life lately.  But thinking back about today, it felt like I spun my tires all day.  I cant really think of any one thing I got completely done today.  Im not a reflective person really but you know it just seems odd.  Maybe it should be a goal to get at least one thing completely done every day.  Tho I can say that I did get a shower completely done… so there are ways of hacking the system.

Going to start programming a bit again I think.  I need to brush up on some skills Ive not used in years or more.  I can still look at things and think logically about  how it should be done, so thats about 80% of the way there…now for syntax.  Just need to make sure I dont loose the skill.  I am great with hardware but I touch that every day so its time to touch something else daily…now how dirty does that sound.

Useless

Ive never seen a more useless bunch than developers.  They may can write some code here and there, but can they figure out how to use a computer…nope.  You would think they could figure out what is a good or bad thing to do in terms of computers, but nope.  Today was nothing but dealing with developers that wanted to screw up their laptops some how.  Oh well, i could have been like sleeping so i guess it could be better or worse.

I am about useless as well.  Some days its amazing that I make it out of the bed.  Simple things like closing my mouth while showering means I could drown at any moment.  But then again, that could be fun…

Utter amazment

Ever wonder where your brain comes up with the dreams you have?  I dont know where my brain comes up with some of the ideas it has.  Not that it was such a weird or odd dream, just a really good dream.  Not in that way you fool….  But one of those dreams where its just a good place to be and where you dont want to leave.  I say…give me the blue pill….

Weekend

Guess I did find something to do.  Calum wants me up in Oak Ridge to help work on the old b12.  Got to put a new wiring harness in it to make sure its running well.  Think about it, car that weighs maybe 2100lbs, with a 180hp engine…that thing is going to be fast.  Engine is in, has ran, but hack job means its sketchy at times.  We are putting a stock wiring harness in with a tuned ECU from Calum.  That and a little bit of work for say the radiator is all that car needs.  Actually it all fits, but for the turbo we gota move the radiator a bit.  So hacksaws here we come.  Atleast this weekend will be better than sitting at home doing nothing.

Old songs

Dont ya just hate it when you come up on one of those old songs from way back that makes you have all sorts of those bad memories.  Sure we got the good song memories…but you know those songs which have too many bad memories.  In that whole huge play list of mine….I land on one.  Now the olds on that happening so say one song…thats a .005% chance of that one song happening.  Oh well, thats what they made the Next button for right???

Lack of good news

I have none and it appears there is very little out there in terms of tech either.  just a typical Thursday I guess. May be heading up to Oak Ridge this weekend to work on more interesting cars.  Calum has a B12 Sentra with a DET in it and it needs a wireing harness.  So who knows maybe it might run again.  But found out we do have Monday off so cant complain about that.  Wish I had something more interesting to do but I dont have many choices.  We will see what comes up if anything at all…
